PHYSICAL EFFECTS
Physical Effects explores what happens when digital simulations are translated into physical objects.
Simulation → printable geometry → 3D print → stop-motion. Water, tornado and smoke become sequences of physical frames, exposing what changes when digital effects meet gravity, fabrication and material.
PHYSICAL EFFECTS
Simulatie → printbare geometrie → 3D-print → stop-motion.
What is preserved, changed or lost when a digital effect becomes physical?
Physical sequences
Two resolved studies photographed as physical works.
Twee uitgewerkte studies gefotografeerd als fysieke werken.
Tornado
A volumetric simulation reconstructed as twenty-four physical frames and animated again through stop-motion.
Frame translation
Water Splash
A water simulation translated into seventeen physical frames. The printed sequence reveals the individual sculptural moments hidden inside continuous motion.
Een watersimulatie vertaald naar zeventien fysieke frames. De geprinte reeks maakt de afzonderlijke sculpturale momenten in de continue beweging zichtbaar.
Frame translation
Smoke
Smoke was harder to translate because of its loose structure. Several versions tested stability, supports and how closely the physical object could stay to the simulation.
V03 worked best and could be printed almost entirely without supports. The small “hairs” introduced during printing give the object a rough old-film quality.
Early tests arranged upright.
Vroege tests rechtop opgesteld.
The loose forms were difficult to keep stable.
A cylinder and pedestal helped.
Een cilinder en sokkel hielpen.
Printed almost entirely without supports.
Bijna volledig zonder supports geprint.
